Presented by:
Preshit Gawade, Ph.D., Baker Hughes' executive director of new energies, is today's featured Forty Under 40 honoree.
Originally from Mumbai, India, Gawade earned his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and his PhD in chemical engineering from Ohio State University.
Having spent the first half of his career as a scientist before pivoting to the oil and gas industry, Gawade is a self-proclaimed engineer at heart. He credits his time spent in the academic world to his versatile approach to working in the energy industry as a published author with over 400 citations.
“This non-linear journey gives me a 360-degree overview in the O&G sector and helps to connect the dots to transform core capabilities, invest in growth and position for tomorrow through business planning and investment,” he said.
The oil and gas industry's resilience and continued relevance is what keeps Gawade motivated about working in the sector.
"Oil and gas remains relevant and crucial in energy security and to build a resilient economy. I see a lot of activities being undertaken in the industry to adapt, prepare and pivot the business to more sustainable solutions and decarbonization," he said. "For me, having a front-row seat and being able to participate in this transition for the next 20 years is exciting."
Outside of his position at Baker Hughes, Gawade held various roles within the Society of Petroleum Engineers between 2019 and 2022, including vice chair and Shark-Tank program coordinator.
